I wanted to comment on this for a while. I understand that you didn't use a kick intentionally, but if that is the case, you should do something with your low frequencies and fill in that range with something. Ravitex was talking about throwing a side-chain on the track for the main bass you're using here (with a period of 1 beat to fit with the percussion). Throwing a side chain on the master track or percussion track would be kinda weird. Also, the white noise thing he's talking about can be used as a transition into other parts of the song (you can also do this with a reversed cymbal crash leading up to the same cymbal crash, I think the noise thing would work better here though). You have a good song structure here though! And seriously, get the full version so you can save a song, you'll also be able to collaborate with people when you get it.

Applesnitch responds:

Thanks for the review! I am hoping to get the full version soon, I also am still able to collaborate without it though, seeing that I can do it through an mp3 file. I agree that I should have filled in some spots with low frequencies, I should have made the sub louder too. Anyways, thanks!

I actually really like this! I'm diggin the synths, the abrupt silencing in the lead were well executed. If I were to suggest any improvement, feel free to get a little more dynamic in your instruments (simply put, play with more knobs). Also, when the lead is in solo, I can kinda hear a beat in it (I think that's due to the silent kick sound when that generator turns off). I think that is kinda cool, and when I hear that in any of my songs I try to mimic that beat in my percussion. Love it, keep it up!

Aquaninja360 responds:

thx I love great reviews!!!

You can't just reverse Back on Track by DJVI and post it. On top of that you called it yours. Come on dude.

Actually though, you should probably take it down before you get banned. I mean you already learned how to sequence audio, why not go the extra 10 miles to make your own song?

I like how the percussion captures the dark feel of the song and especially the background sounds in the intro. With dubstep, you can go all over the place, feel free to throw in some other nasty shit in there to avoid being repetitive. You can let the bassline notes stay the same, but change up the sound in some locations maybe. What I've noticed a lot of people do is make their second drop slightly different than their first (with gating or other instruments or even a different tempo). So like similar enough to keep the same theme and idea but different enough to sound like something new (I know that sounds kinda vague, this song depicts what I mean by this https://soundcloud.com/fuckourordinarylives/fool-slayer ). I agree with JaThu, you have gotten better and so you should definitely keep making more! Can't wait to hear it!

Applesnitch responds:

Thanks! I can only work with the demo of FL Studio 12 (I know right ☹) but I will be getting the full version here pretty soon. Maybe another month and I will have it. For now though, I can't go back and work on the song. I may be getting ProTools soon though. :D Thanks for the ideas!

I'm actually diggin this, you might want to give the voice a little more presence over the mix because it's a little difficult for me to hear on my speakers at least (my speakers are kinda shitty so maybe it's just me). One thing that might make the "fucked up" part be more distinct is to duplicate that part of the sample, lower it an octave or two and then layer that over the original, try that and how that sounds. I love the buildup and the drum fill leading into the drop. You've used the filters tastefully here and I fukin love violins.

The-Cockenator responds:

Haha Thanks man i really appreciate your hints and yes!!!! over dubing the fucked up part with a non echoing part might make it work :D and violins are just the cherry on the top :D and boosting the volume for the voice might make it 2 :D and thanks again for your lovely comment :D

Okay so last time I reviewed you, "NNN" was literally the only song I had listened to and I kinda based my judgement of your work completely off that song. I can definitely see now that you are experienced. You nailed your theme here; actually it made me want to play kerbal space program whilst listening to this song. So I did that for a while. My favorite thing is the background ambiance here and I actually don't have anything to say to be improved here. The reverb is tasteful, and the leads continue to add depth to your theme. If I ever make a space related animation/movie, I'm coming back here.

Syzion responds:

Thank you, DarkBlueFX! You certainly understand the theme.
Though, I must tell you, this wasn't done with FL Studio, it was made with LMMS(Linux Multimedia Studio, not just for Linux!). Like I said, I'm rather new to FL Studio. There are things on FL Studio that I have to completely work out for anything to sound good. The NNN project could take until October to be at its best, because of all the research and practice. I hope it turns out well...
Again, thank you!

Not gonna lie here, it sounds great, like I've listened to it three times all the way through voluntarily. Venture out of your comfort zone a little. Techno music will always have a sidechained bassline and that kick-hat-snare-hat, but there's always a way to add your own signature spice to your work. Don't get me wrong it still sounds great (I'm listening a fourth time) and I really had to try in order to think of a comment you might find helpful.

PhatBoiJ responds:

Yeah man, I always get the "finding my own style comment" :P I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I think you should consider throwing a limiter over your master track. It sounds like you're getting some clipping due to having too many overpowering sounds. Everything you have here is great and I especially like the melodies, usually that is hard to come by. So all the musical talent and creativity is there, but there's just some technical issues.

Gravidi responds:

Thanks for the feedback, it is super helpful. I do agree with what you are saying about limiting the sounds. The technical stuff is really my only problem in production, I'm just not sure how to do all that yet.

Wow, I love it when people switch into triplet beats and you nailed the 'ghoul' theme here. This was tight.
